SAVUSUN

2018 - MONTPELLIE DANSE FESTIVAL

Hey there, this is the default text for a new paragraph. Feel free to

SAVUSUN - 2018

«The body implies mortality, vulnerability, agency: the skin and the flesh expose us to the gaze of others, but also to touch, and to violence..»
  Judith Butler

Savušun ســـووشون  is an ode to vulnerability, to affection, to affected beings. Like a folktale, this solo finds its inspiration in commemorative Shiite rituals in Iran : the Tazi’eh and the Sin’eh Zani ceremony. Within this collective history I weave a more intimate story that questions the representation of complex and paradoxical emotions. Here, the suffering, sadness and fear that minoritized bodies endure are addressed and transformed through play, with humor and hybrid gestures both grotesque and graceful. Between real loss and symbolic loss, Savušun goes from comfort to discomfort, from tenderness to cruelty, from toxic masculinity to vulnerable identity. Trouble remains.
